Sandy Ding - Night Awake

Night Awake is an experimental noise film provoking 3rd eye opening (seeing what is inside, beyond the limit of symbols). By transferring camera into a spiritual medium, the lunar god has taught messages in the gap of time. The film is from the graveyard, and it is a textile of death (final transformation), which made the lucid light shine in the depths of many dimensions. To summon the third eye awakening, we should not agitate the surface of the mind and physical eye, but soothe and provoke the third eye to awaken. In the gap of time, the flame of images that rise and become eternity is forming the rhythm and the speech. The teachings received in my travels and in green crystals. In distanced mysteries, the half rotten emulsion is the art of metaphysical connection and path of the awakening. This film talks in a spiral language. It moves through one part of the otherness to another part of it. The sound is a dialogue, not only an emotional drone. It is the energy that sparks the image. The film has two parts; the second part double the speed of the first part.

“After returning to China in 2008, I began to play with sound. Firstly, I started to DJ dark psytrance music, then making my own sound work. Together with my friends in Beijing, we started a noise band called “Liquid Palace.” Every month or two, we did improvised noise music performances in Beijing. Noise music has inspired my filmmaking dramatically since 2012. I did a lot of tests on film and began to make films using the inspirations from noise art. Eventually, I made an experimental feature film called Night Awake in 2016 more dedicated to it.” - Sandy Ding
