Boris Lehman - Club Antonin Artaud
On January 10th 1962, in the boisterous context of anti-psychiatry movements, the Club Antonin Artaud was born in Brussels, at the instigation of former mental patients and some of their therapists. In this place of avant-garde, designated center of social and cultural rehabilitation, Boris Lehman creates a group of filmmaking, the first of its kind. In eighteen years, about one hundred films will have been made, individually and collectively: documentaries, fictions and experimental films. They are not therapeutic films, they are rather art brut experiences.

Le 10 janvier 1962, dans le contexte turbulent des mouvements antipsychiatriques, naissait à Bruxelles le Club Antonin Artaud, sous l’impulsion d’anciens malades mentaux et certains de leurs thérapeutes. Dans ce lieu d’avant-garde, désigné centre de réadaptation sociale et culturelle, Boris Lehman y crée un groupe de réalisation de films, le premier du genre. En dix-huit ans, une centaine de films auront été réalisés, individuellement ou collectivement : documentaires, fictions et films expérimentaux. Ce ne sont pas des films thérapeutiques, ce sont plutôt des expériences d’art brut.

Il 10 gennaio 1962, nel contesto turbolento dei movimenti antipsichiatrici, nasceva a Bruxelles il Club Antonin Artaud, sotto l’impulso di vecchi malati mentali e alcuni dei loro terapeuti. In questo luogo d’avanguardia, denominato centro di riabilitazione sociale e culturale, Boris Lehman crea un gruppo di regia di film, il primo nel genere. In diciotto anni, sono stati realizzati, in maniera individuale o collettiva, un centinaio di film: documentari, fiction e film sperimentali. Non si tratta di film terapeutici, ma piuttosto di esperienze d’art brut.
